1) I'm updating my commenting policy.
As part of my New Years Resolutions, I feel it's a good idea to avoid unnecessary BS. So the following is being added:No drive-bys, no insults. I take a great deal of care to edit my blog entries. So, if your comment is merely a flippant dismissal of my carefully crafted thoughts, your comment will not be approved. I'm done with that kind of interaction. If you are insulting to me, the Queer community, women, or other minorities, your comment will not be approved. This is my house, and I've every right to kick out anyone who's disrespectful of that. My house, my rules.
2) Why?
Well, because on my entry carefully explaining why Transgender Rights ARE Gay Rights, someone left this comment:Who the fuck cares about the bigotry of Third World countries and Red States? It's true probably that the murderous low-life of Uganda and North Carolina see trannies and gay men as somehow related; but things are seen differently in Spain and Colorado. For us First World gays the Revolution is over: We won. Now let's get the hysterical baggage of Lesbians, sissies and trannies off our backs and onto the tracks, so to speak.
Nowhere in this is there ANY attempt to answer any of my points. It's also an example of how perfectly selfish some people are. How some people, once getting what they want, are quick to slam the door shut behind them. Also usage of the pejorative "trannies" is something I'm not cool with. In the past I would be perfectly willing to engage this sorry sack in debate, but I have much better things to do with my time, and the whole tone communicates to me that this person is neither open to discussion nor willing to listen, so my efforts would be wasted. In short, this is a troll, and I'm done with trolls.
I'll probably get an angry email calling me a fascist or a censor, which credits me with more power and influence than I would ever have. To that I would say, "you've got a blog, say it there, don't leave your garbage on mine."
