PGPD Makes Arrest in Attack on Elderly Male

The Prince George’s County Police Department made an arrest in thebaseball bat attack and attempted robbery of an elderly man in Colmar Manor.
The investigation led detectives to identify and arrest 22year-old Justin Charles Strong of the 4100 block of 34th Street inMt. Rainier. He was taken into custody on September 21st.
On Saturday, September 15th at 5:48 a.m., police officers werecalled to the 3800 block of Bladensburg Road for the report of an assault inprogress. Once on scene, officers found the 72 year-old victim suffering fromsevere injuries and he was rushed to a local hospital. He remains hospitalizedin stable condition.
The investigation revealed that the victim had been waiting at abus stop when he was approached by the suspect who pulled out a knife anddemanded the victim’s wallet. The victim refused, at which point the suspectwalked away. The suspect returned a short while later, armed with an aluminumbaseball bat, and began attacking the victim. That's when a good Samaritanpassed by and yelled for the suspect to stop. The suspect ran away.
Strong is being charged with attempted first degree murder, firstdegree assault, armed robbery, and several other charges. Strong was remandedto the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.
